“Transformations and Expectant Spaces – Waterfronts of Lisbon Metropolitan Area”

The research group is pleased to announce the first debate and public presentation of the project, taking place on the 28th November 2019 at Teatro Thalia in Lisbon.

A diverse group of authors and researchers will be part of a panel discussion on the waterfront of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, presenting different approaches and confronting the perspectives of architects, landscape architects, and geographers on these places.
The event intends to debate the urban transformations and projects of the last 20 years in this area in correlation with the 1998 International Exhibition, discussion issues firstly introduced by the event, as the significance of city marketing and tourism promotion and greater prominence of public spaces in urban policies. In a roundtable discussion format, the panel will explore topics as land-use changes, the importance of image and aesthetics in the promotion of the territories and the relevance of different dimensions of sustainability (environmental, social, economic).
The program will also include an exhibition of academic works of the Master’s degree in Architecture of ISCTE-IUL and a photography exhibition.
