THE GRAND PROJECTS

Architectural and urbanistic operations after the 1998 Lisbon World Exposition

New article “Expo 1998 Lisbon: the impact of a planned legacy” on the BIE Bulletin 2023

Paulo Tormenta Pinto, Pedro Luz Pinto and Ana Brandão wrote a contribution for the Bulletin of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Bulletin, an edition that explores the multifaceted evolution of Expo sites from conception to legacy.

The article addressed the structural changes produced by the Expo’98 in the Lisbon waterfront area, with a large-scale urban and environmental regeneration project envisioning a new multifunctional centrality and neighbourhood in the post-event period, and other repercussions planned hereafter in multiple geographies and the longer term.
