THE GRAND PROJECTS

Architectural and urbanistic operations after the 1998 Lisbon World Exposition

Task 4
Strategic planning and urban infrastructure lines

For this task, the main sources will be the Riverfront General Plan of Interventions for Lisbon, the South Tagus River Arch City Plans, and the Polis Program.

This task focuses on the strategies underlying the implementation of the various urban plans carried out in Lisbon and in the national territory following Expo98 and on its relationship with the models and the opportunities set in order to launch regeneration and urban infrastructure operations. The strategic actions inherent to the different urban projects will be discussed in this field.

The study concerning the interrelationships between the public sector and the private sector will be included in this task. This will be the basis for a systematic debate in order to evaluate all different factors, circumstances and ideologies underlying the urban development operations. The analytical representation of all these factors will lead to a process of diagramming all research sources in order to provide guidelines for further results.

Milestone 9 | Diagram representation

Collecting information on relevant bibliography and reports, aiming at consolidating the debate about diagram typology to follow

Milestone 10 | Diagram representation

Several interviews will be done with the agents involved on the strategies under study. Deep research on reports and literature will also be done, foreseeing the accomplishment of the diagrams representation.
